Ngaiterangi Iwi Campaign Gains Momentum
Ngaiterangi Iwi's campaign aimed at recording as many people as possible who whakapapa (trace their lineage) to the iwi is gaining momentum.
Called Oho Ake (Awaken), the registration programme is attracting many responses from people who have affiliation to Ngaiterangi.
Ngaiterangi Iwi CEO, Brian Dickson, of Tauranga, says he has no doubt the programme will be a success.
"In the past few days, mail and email has started coming in from around New Zealand and from many countries around the world," he says.
"This is encouraging. We want to build on our iwi database so that we have a distinctive trace of our whakapapa, for both now and the future."
Dickson says it's important to Ngaiterangi that they have a legacy of where they come from.
Forms are available to download from www.ngaiterangi.org.nz or email at ohoake@ngaiterangi.org.nz.
