Help plan the future of Long Bay Regional Park

The Auckland Regional Council is inviting anybody interested in the future of Long Bay Regional Park to come along to an open day this Saturday 29th May.

ARC Parks and Heritage Committee Chairman Bill Burrill says the open day is a chance for the public to get involved in the future concept design of the park.

"We are drawing up a concept plan to address the future use and development of the park and we want the people who care about the park to help us," Cr Burrill says.

"The open day will be a chance for people to get involved in the early stages of the concept design project and let us know just what is important to them for the future of Long Bay."

Cr Burrill says the park's concept design will provide for a range of appropriate recreational uses, protect and enhance areas of ecological significance and address access issues.

"We are very interested to hear the public's views on such things as the relationship between nearby proposed urban development and the park, where access to the park should be located, as well as what facilities should be provided and where."

The public input gained on the open day will be used to contribute to the ARC's submission to the North Shore City Council Structure Plan. The open day feedback will also help develop some preliminary design options for the park, which will be available for comment in November this year.

>From that feedback a preferred concept design will be chosen and developed in greater detail. The public will have the opportunity for further input into this design in April / May 2005.

The final plan is scheduled to be ready for ARC adoption by late June 2005.
