Hutt City Businesses Win Gold

Three Hutt City businesses were recognised for their commitment to excellence and innovation when they won Gold Awards in the Wellington Region Gold Awards, held last night.

"These awards serve to highlight the depth of creative talent and innovation among businesses in Hutt City," said Mayor Terris.

Hutt City businesses recognised were Resene Paints (Generating Gold), Unilever (ACC Workplace Safety) and Stratex Networks (Discovering Gold).

Sidhe Interactive took out the Supreme Award.

"Hutt City can take some pride in the achievements of Sidhe Interactive, an interactive gaming company that has enjoyed international success. It was very pleasing to see recognition given to these young entrepreneurs - they serve as an inspiration to any young person with drive, ambition and a great idea."

Sidhe Interactive was established by three young entrepreneurs in their Hutt City flat. The company recently moved to Wellington City to take advantage of cheaper broadband access.

"The fact that Sidhe had to move to Wellington to grow its business, is confirmation that we are on the right track in pursuing Smartlinx3," said Mayor Terris.

Smartlinx3 is a joint venture initiative between Hutt City, Upper Hutt And Porirua and businesses in those cities.

"Access to cheap broadband services was identified as a priority for many businesses and an obstacle to growing their businesses.

"We have a number of high tech businesses operating in the 'IT Mile' of Petone. We want to ensure they have access to affordable broadband services that will help them grow and prosper," said Mayor Terris.
