Muriwai Regional Park proposal open for submission
Muriwai Regional Park proposals open for
submissions
The Auckland Regional Council is calling for submissions on its proposed changes to Muriwai Regional Park.
ARC Parks and Heritage Committee Chairman Bill Burrill says key stakeholder groups and community representatives have had input into the proposals over the past year.
“We are grateful to the many people who have helped the ARC shape these proposals for the future of Muriwai Regional Park. Their input has led to a design concept which we believe will cater for visitors’ recreation needs without compromising the park’s special qualities we know people value,” Cr Burrill says.
The proposed improvements to the park over the next five years include: Replacement of existing carparks with a new access road and carparks behind and beside the campground (this will not alter the campground’s current layout or facilities);
Removal of existing carparks within the coastal hazard zone (which is threatened by coastal erosion) and revegetation of the area;
Construction of viewing platforms on Coast and Oaia Roads;
Creation of main arrival area beside current ranger station;
Redevelopment of shop and information services; and
Development of new Coast Rd carpark, signage and information service near golf club entrance.
The ARC is also proposing to allow Rodney District Council to manage part of the park known as the Village Green so they can develop further community facilities in partnership with the local Muriwai Community.
“Now that the proposals are open for public submissions it is important that all the people of Muriwai and all those who use or have an interest in the park, familiarise themselves with what is planned and have their say.
Now is the time to get involved.”
Cr Burrill says the ARC has allowed just over two months for submissions (the closing date is Friday March 19) and he hopes this will encourage widespread input.
“We look forward to submissions from both individuals and groups associated with Muriwai.”
