Foot not identified
In a bizarre twist a foot recovered from the Rangitata River on Monday is mammalian but not human, examination now shows.
Detective Paul Hayden, Ashburton Police, says that the initial examination by a Christchurch pathologist indicated that the foot was human. Acting on new information received today it was examined again and has been confirmed as mammalian but not human, he says.
Further inquiries and examination are being made. We have no results or firm conclusions yet.
