Shortlist for Turners and Growers development
City Council shortlists for Turners and Growers
development
Five developers have been short-listed by Christchurch City Council to submit proposals for the development of the block of land known as the Turners and Growers site.
The Council received a strong response to its mid year call for registrations of interest, says Allan Johnson, project manager for the development.
“A good range of submissions was received. These were assessed for demonstrating an understanding of the aims and objectives of the project, and experience and ability,” says Mr Johnson.
The short-listed firms are: Brian Gillman Ltd
Chas
S Luney Ltd
Govan Property Group
Ltd
McLeod/Arrow Joint Venture
RFD Investments
Ltd
The firms will have until March next year to provide more detailed proposals. It is expected that the Council’s evaluation will be completed by May Mr Johnson says.
Background:
- Bordered by Tuam, Madras, Lichfield and
Barbadoes streets, the 1.76ha central city block was bought
by the Council in April 2002. By working with private
interests to develop the area the Council aims to kick-start
a wider revitalisation and enhancement of the eastern side
of the Central City.
- Providing more green space in
this part of the Central City is another of the Council’s
aims, and prospective developers have been told they will
need to include at least 5000 square metres of open public
space.
- The Council also wants to encourage greater
vitality in the area by increasing the number of people who
live there. To help do this, developers have been asked for
mixed-use schemes which provide a range of housing types,
including those suitable for
students.
