Painted Apple Moth Spring Aerial
Operation Suspended
Due To High Winds – Tuesday 11
November
The current spring aerial operation against
the painted apple moth was suspended today – Tuesday, 11
November - due to high winds.
More than half of the 6,500-hectare area was treated before 10.50am when high winds caused the aircraft to be grounded. This is the second of two scheduled 6,500-hectare spring operations to wipe out the moth.
The remaining 2,400 hectares to be treated are in the Hobsonville, Greenhithe and Beachaven areas and one section across the two larger treatment areas in West Auckland. It is expected that when the operation resumes these areas will be treated within approximately two hours.
Conditions are being closely monitored and a decision will be made in the morning as to whether the operation can resume tomorrow (Wednesday 12 November) or on the next day weather permits. For up-to-date information people can call 0800 96 96 96 or listen to MoreFM 91.8FM or Newstalk ZB 1080AM for status updates.
