Creative approach to speed on Tuckers Road

International traffic expert, David Engwicht will work with a project team to develop creative ways to reduce the dangerous traffic speeds on Tuckers Road, Northcote.

David Engwicht gained fame in Brisbane in 1987 by heading a fight to stop a ‘free-way’ going through his neighbourhood, arguing the community should not push the problem into someone else’s backyard, but search for city-wide and long-term solutions.

David went on to write several influential books on traffic calming, and has worked on innovations such as Neighbourhood Place Car Programme, Red Sneaker Week, the Universal Anchoring Device and most recently Traffic Tamers, a self-funding programme for encouraging kids to walk to school that doubles as a fundraiser.

The Council has invited David Engwicht to support residents to reclaim the street by coming up with a creative plan to reduce the speed of traffic on Tuckers Road The media are invited to Northcote Primary School, from 9 am to 5 pm on Wednesday 12 or Thursday 13 November to meet David Engwicht and see the project team on site designing a plan for Tuckers Road. David will be happy to answer questions from the media and to talk about the progress of the plan.
