Picnic time for you and your furry friends!

Picnic time for you and your furry friends!

If you go down to the zoo you’ll be sure of a big surprise: Auckland Zoo’s Furry Friends’ Picnic on Sunday, 26 October, 11am – 3pm!

“We don’t think it’s fair only teddy bears have picnics! So we’re inviting children and their families to bring ALL their favourite furry toy friends to where all their real life counterparts live,” says Jackie Sanders, Auckland Zoo Events Co-ordinator.

“It’s going to be full-on fun activities and entertainment, and what better day to hold our very first Furry Friends’ Picnic than on New Zealand Children’s Day.”

With a few notable furry friends of her own, Goldilocks is the perfect Master of Furry Ceremonies to keep you up to date with what’s happening and to make sure everyone joins in the fun. Auckland radio DJ Nick Logan will get things really rocking and ‘The Aunties’ unique interactive performances are always an experience. The picnic promises to be an enchanting affair with Fairy Claire’s story telling, magicians, and the antics of the Hi Flyers stilt walkers, juggler and mad hatter keeping you enthralled.

You may even come across some furry ‘characters’, such as Rufus the Red Panda and paddle pop lion, who will be prowling around to make sure it’s all just grrrrrreat. Carmel’s face painters can even transform the kids into furry creatures themselves.

You can also get along to see some real animals in action at our exciting Eye-to-Eye Zoo encounters with keepers, including giraffe, macaw, Galapagos tortoise, orangutan, elephant, tiger, and the Native Fauna Encounter. (For Encounter times visit our website www.aucklandzoo.co.nz or phone the Zoo Infoline: (09) 360-3819).

There’ll also be give-aways galore – a life size baby giraffe from Animal Antics, 2 Family passes to Cirkus Inferno at the Civic Theatre in November, loads of Children’s Day Activity Packs, courtesy of CYFS, and more!

All you have to do is bring a picnic. Or you can purchase yummy children’s picnic packs from Darwin’s Café.

Normal Zoo admission charges.

P.S. Teddy Bears are welcome too!
