Cashmere High School Big Band Play Cathedral Square

Free Friday Lunchtime Concert, Friday October 10th, 12.30pm to 1.30pm, Cathedral Square

30 members of the Cashmere High School Big Band will entertain lunchtime visitors to Cathedral Square this Friday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

The band is made up of soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, plus trumpets, trombones and a full rhythm section.

Their repertoire includes a wide range of styles, from Glen Miller and standard jazz numbers, to pop music from the 60's, rock 'n' roll, and contemporary hits.

Musical Director Nolene Penter recognizes the talent that she works with. "The Students are ardent musicians and their enthusiasm for their art is humbling. As a group they are united in their quest for excellence, and to top it all off, without exception, they are thoroughly lovely young people!'.

The Cashmere High School Big Band have recently played at a charity event run by the Cashmere Club, and often perform at corporate events such as International Conferences, National Sports Dinners and private functions.

They recently won the Gold Award at the National Concert Band's Festival.
