Banks to support John Law as regional leader
“It is my intention to fully support Rodney Mayor John Law to be the next chairman of the Auckland Regional Mayoral Forum,” Auckland City Mayor Hon John Banks said today.
The Mayoral Forum meets tomorrow morning and the third item on the agenda is the issue of chairmanship. The role is normally rotated annually although present chairman, North Shore City Mayor George Wood, has just completed two years.
“Mr Law has the ability to undertake this important regional leadership role and to continue negotiations with the Government for the ‘toolbox’ needed to fund and complete Auckland’s integrated transport network.
“This responsibility needs day-to-day attention and much enthusiasm and energy. That’s why I support John Law and I am pleased he is prepared to take on this challenge.
“Mr Law has done a great job rebuilding Rodney’s credibility and profile after the Minister of the Local Government suspended the past dysfunctional council, held a ministerial inquiry, and appointed a commissioner to run the district back in 2000,” said Mr Banks.
John Law was elected Mayor of Rodney in March 2001. The 59-year-old lives in Silverdale and has been a long-time resident of Rodney. He has extensive senior corporate management experience.
