Environmental Expo in Russell
Opportunity for ratepayers to learn how local government operates
Both the Far North District Council and Northland Regional Council are being proactive in their displays at this year’s Environmental Expo.
Local government practice is often misunderstood by ratepayers and residents, who get involved only when they receive their rates notices or see something that concerns them. The Northland Regional Council covers the catchment area from just north of Wellsford, while the Far North District Council’s boundary ends north of Hukerenui.
“The Far North District Council is delighted to
be supporting this excellent event,” said Tania McInnes who
is co-ordinating their display.
Visitors will find Animal
Control, Northland Health and the District Plan and Consents
processes represented on the FNDC stand. The Environmental
Expo, therefore, is an ideal opportunity for people who work
during the week and are unable to call at the FNDC to meet
staff, to come along and find out about Council
processes.
Noise control, food hygiene aspects, resource and building consent details - (such as when you don't need one!), heritage sites and lots of other information will be available on the FNDC stands. The Mayor, Yvonne Sharp, will be at the stand on Sunday and the CEO, Clive Manley, on Saturday afternoon.
