Mayor pleased with decision progressing rail corridor work
“It is good news that the Government has now enabled Infrastructure Auckland to release urgently needed money for improvements to rail stations, corridor safety and lighting,” said Auckland Mayor Hon John Banks today.
“Dr Cullen’s response is positive and will assist in solving Auckland transport issues. ARTNL is now enthusiastic about getting on with it.”
Mr Banks said the Government has also clarified the roles of those involved in developing the region’s passenger rail system and has created a platform for strong working relationships.
“The eleventh hour agreement has still to be finalised, but at least long overdue work can now commence on improving rail stations across the region.”
Auckland City Transport Committee chairman Greg McKeown said the ARTNL’s work will help improve safety for regional passengers and local residents living around the rail corridor.
“We are pleased to have this opportunity for ARTNL to get on with the much needed improvements,” Mr McKeown reiterated.
