Profile of the Architect – Greg Boyden

“I was in London 1987 to 1992. When I came back, I kept hearing that Wellington had everything. There was a real sense of civic pride. I went down there to have a look. When I saw what had happened I realised that with the library, the refurbishment of the Town Hall, the square, the cafes and so on the whole thing came together. People cared about the city.

“Now, in Auckland, we’ve had the Town Hall, the Civic, the Viaduct Harbour, Princes Wharf. It’s happening here. With Britomart, there’s a big step forward. A hub, a connection, and heart to the city. It will provide a focus that people will care about. A city that’s exciting!”

Greg was born in New Zealand and is registered as an architect in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Of Tainui heritage and the son of a sheep farmer from Hastings, Greg has been passionate about designed and constructed forms since he was very young.

He qualified as an architect at Auckland University, and gained experience in New Zealand, and the UK working on projects in Portugal, Germany, and France.

- Adidas Unisports Science and Medical Centre Auckland, University of Auckland
