New tourism award for North Shore City businesses
New tourism award for North Shore City
businesses
North Shore City Council is to sponsor the tourism category in this year's premier business awards.
The Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards, run under the auspices of the economic development agency Enterprise North Shore, is the city's premier business event, and it's the first time the tourism category has been included.
Enterprise North Shore is now calling for nominations for each of the categories, with the deadline on June 19. This year's awards again include a number of categories, with the Westpac Supreme Business Excellence Trophy awarded to the best business from the twelve category winners.
The new tourism category is sponsored by North Shore City Council as a part of its increasing commitment to the development of tourism in the city, says deputy mayor Dianne Hale.
"Our part of the region is increasingly attractive to tourists and visitors from other parts of New Zealand and from all over the world - but with international tourism taking a buffeting, it's in all our interests to raise our tourism profile at every opportunity," she says.
"This award could well provide the needed catalyst for a North Shore City tourism business to grow, to prosper and to bring significant benefits to the whole business community."
Chief executive of Enterprise North Shore, Terry Hoskins, says the North Shore City Council's Excellence in Tourism Award provides a stepping stone to the NZ Tourism Awards. The category also complements the study of the city's tourism industry that the council has initiated with AUT's Faculty of Business.
