Get It On!

Get It On!

>From the 13th -19th April, Police and Plunket will be out and about in Hutt City telling people to get it on in their cars or else...

Armed with 'Make it Click' stickers, free passes from HOYTS, Swim City and Lollipops Playland; Police and Plunket volunteers will be rewarding those who are buckled in safely, as well as issuing fines of $150 to those who are not buckled in. Every person stopped by the Police and Plunket will be eligible to go into the draw to win a free child booster seat from Britax.

In February this year, 23 people were killed on New Zealand roads. Of these 23 people, seven were not restrained at the time of the crash. The police officers who attended the crashes estimated that at least five of those killed would have been saved if they had been wearing their safety belt. (LTSA Road Safety New Zealand magazine, March 2003 issue).

"It's not rocket science, if you and your children are buckled in safely you have a much, much greater chance of surviving a crash than if you weren't" says Hutt City Road Safety Coordinator, Tony Yung

Infant, child and booster seats can be hired from the Plunket Car Seat rental scheme based on the ground floor of the Community Health Building at Hutt Hospital. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10am-1pm; Tuesday 12-3pm; Thursday 5:30-7:30pm. For more information please phone 566 9004.
