North Shore City appoints new CEO
Takapuna resident John Brockies is the North Shore City Council's new chief executive officer.
Mr Brockies is currently chief executive of Siemens Energy Services, an Albany-based energy infrastructure company. He
is expected to take up his new appointment at North Shore City within the next three months.
A business graduate, he worked for Auckland City Council for seven years in the roles of director of finance and
director of customer services. He also worked at Takapuna-based UnitedNetworks as general manager group operations in
2000-2001.
The long-time North Shore resident is married with three children. His interests include running, fitness, chess and
music.
North Shore City mayor, George Wood, says the recruitment programme to find a replacement for Rob Hutchison, who vacated
the top position last Christmas, attracted interest from throughout New Zealand and overseas.
"It was a robust process and the calibre of candidates was outstanding. Councillors are delighted by the appointment of
John Brockies," Mr Wood says.
Mr Brockies says North Shore City is a highly respected organisation committed to delivering excellent service to its
community.
"I am delighted to become a member of the team," he says.
The council's chief financial officer, Roger Duncan, a long-time East Coast Bays resident, will continue his role as
acting CEO until Mr Brockies takes over.
Devonport resident Rob Hutchison resigned late last year to accept the position of chief executive of Viaduct Harbour
Holdings to oversee the development of the waterfront precinct between Princes Wharf and Westhaven.
North Shore City is the fourth largest city in New Zealand with a population approaching 200,000 and faces many
challenges that come with its reputation as one of the best places to live and work.
The North Shore City Council has a staff of 656 which will report to John Brockies covering professional disciplines
ranging from engineering to agronomy.
