Aerial Operation Suspended Today, Friday

Aerial Operation Suspended Today, Friday 14 March 2003, Due To High Winds

The general aerial operation planned for Monday 10th March started at first light this morning (Friday 14 March) after a week of delays due to unsettled weather and unfavourable forecasts. High winds, mid morning, caused the operation to be suspended at 10.00am, Friday 14 March.

Before the aircraft were grounded approximately 3,100 hectares over and around Glen Eden and Henderson and the Port Chevalier area were treated. In total nearly a third of the entire eradication zone was completed.

“Inclement weather at the beginning of the week and now windy conditions have meant no operation all week. This is disappointing as we now face the prospect, weather permitting, of having to operate over this weekend. Following feedback from the public about the previous Sunday operation we have worked hard to avoid weekends.” says Robert Isbister, General Manager Painted Apple Moth Operation.

“We would encourage the public to call 0800 96 96 96 for information and listen to Newstalk ZB (1080 AM) for updates,” added Mr Isbister.

The public can also listen to 531pi (531AM), Chinese Radio (AM 990) and Radio Korea (1386 AM) for information.
