Fundraiser - Lord Of The Rings spectacular
Campaign for a Better City (CBC), is organising a spectacular Lord of the Rings evening at the Embassy Theatre. The fundraising event includes an early screening of The Two Towers and spot prizes, and cinemagoers will be encouraged to dress up as their favourite Lord Of The Rings character.
CBC spokesperson, Alan Whiting “It is most appropriate for CBC to associate itself with this movie. Lord of the Rings tells a tale of a long and arduous journey, with humble heroes battling against a myriad of foes. We feel great sympathy for the hobbits and those who stand alongside them in their fight with great evil. Our own struggle has stretched over more than a decade. We have already fought many battles, and even suffered the odd setback but most importantly we have made great allies across the city and beyond. This evening will be a celebration of how far we have travelled, a respite, before we move on again to do battle with those who would destroy our community.”
The proceeds from the movie will go towards CBC’s legal costs in the ongoing Environment Court appeal. CBC is appealing the decision of the Historic Places Trust to grant Archaeological Authorities to Transit NZ for the Inner-City “Bypass”. The appeal is presently adjourned and it is expected the case will be concluded in 2003.
If it goes ahead the Inner-City “Bypass” will affect more than two dozen historic buildings. CBC wants to see all of these buildings protected and restored to retain this unique and charming part of the capital.
CBC is selling tickets now
for the screening which will take place at 8.55pm on 23
December 2002.
Tickets cost $15. They can be bought
directly from Aro Street Video Shop, Olive Café, 170 Cuba

admission. People should arrive early for the best
