Painted Apple Moth Aerial Called Off For Today
The extended aerial operation to wipe out the painted apple moth has been called off for today because wind is still brisk and does not appear be dropping.
Flying will resume at first light tomorrow morning with about a third of the 8,000 hectares still to complete.
Both aircraft will be used in the operation tomorrow. Today the eradication team grounded the Fokker Friendship after problems with its GPS (Global Positioning System) which meant accurate spraying could not be guaranteed. The small light aircraft continued until mid morning when rising winds called a halt to the programme.
The aircraft will not fly between 8-9.00 am, 12.15-1.00 pm and 3-4.00 pm to try and avoid children walking to school and having lunch.
