Painted Apple Moth Aerial Operation On Today
The extended aerial operation to wipe out the painted apple moth will resume this morning at first light. About a third of the 8,000 hectares is still to complete.
Both aircraft will be used in today’s operation. Yesterday the eradication team grounded the Fokker Friendship after problems with its GPS (Global Positioning System) which meant accurate spraying could not be guaranteed. The small light aircraft continued until mid morning when rising winds called a halt to the programme.
The aircraft will not fly between 8-9.00 am, 12.15-1.00 pm and 3-4.00 pm to try and avoid children walking to school and having lunch.
