Egypt-mania at Auckland Museum

Egypt-mania at Auckland Museum

Celebrate all things Egyptian at Auckland Museum on Sunday 17 November as we celebrate all things ancient!

As part of the Museum’s Living Treasures Day series, ‘Ancient Egypt Day’ will find the Museum alive with mummies, as visitors get to go behind the scenes to our archaeology and conservation departments, with the rare chance to visit our 2000 year-old mummy and speak to Museum staff about its care.

Highlights of the day include a talk on Egyptian gods by renowned Egyptologist, Shirley Temm, a tour of the Ancient Civilizations’ Gallery with archaeology curator Nigel Prickett, and Egyptian face-painting by the Academy of Film and Television Make-Up.

Kids can craft their own Egyptian jewellery, screen print t-shirts with ancient hieroglyphs or create an antique Egyptian tile, while story teller Tanya Batt will entertain with tall tales of tombs and curses.

Win one of four fabulous books on ancient Egypt with our ancient civilizations’ quiz and see belly dancing at 1pm. Documentary screenings of the classic BBC series, ‘The Face of Tutankhamun’ from 1pm until 4.30pm.

Feel free to come dressed in bandages.

Usual admission applies: entry by donation, $5 is suggested, children are free. Open 10am – 5pm.
