New Fitness Centre for Clendon Community Centre
Fitness fanatics living in the Clendon area have reason to celebrate. Manukau City Council is pleased to announce the
opening of a new Fitness Centre on the 4 November at the Clendon Community Centre.
This development is the result of customer demand from the large number of local youth interested in sport and fitness.
It will also increase community access to health and wellness services. The activity room has been converted into the
fitness room and two new staff members have been appointed to run the Centre.
Recreational programmers, Robert Young and Doris Ta ala, both come with lots of experience in leadership, running
training programmes and assisting community groups with recreational activities. Current staff are undergoing training
in this area, so they can also assist with the Centre. All the staff are very excited about the upcoming opening and
helping new members with their fitness and training requirements.
Centre Manager, Paul Chidzero, says “We have been working towards establishing the Fitness Centre for some time and look
forward to welcoming new and existing members. The establishment of the Centre has been in response to a growing demand
for this type of facility. This is in keeping with a global trend, echoed here in New Zealand, towards a healthy
lifestyle which includes maintaining a regular fitness programme.
“The equipment available for cardio work will be tread mills, cross trainers, bikes and rowers. For weight fitness
training there will be pin loaded weight equipment coupled with a range of free weights.”
Special events planned for the opening day include the Manurewa Family Festival and a rowing festival. Also as an
opening special offer Clendon Community Centre are giving away a Workout Pack which includes a towel and a H20 thirst
quencher to the first 40 new members.
Membership categories to cater for different groups in the community and include peak, off peak and student rates.
Another special offer is customers taking a paid 6 – 12 month membership will be eligible for free aerobic sessions.
