Hon John Banks QSO
Mayor of Auckland City
Roosters’ flag has flown in
After much anticipation the Roosters’ flag has finally arrived from Sydney. Auckland Mayor John Banks will hoist it to the Town Hall’s flag mast at 3.45pm today.
“They say it is better late than never - we would have preferred never, but a promise is a promise,” he said.
“The Warriors lost, we will hoist the flag, and the Sydney Roosters can crow.”
This will complete last week’s good-spirited trans-Tasman wager between the Mayor of Auckland and the Lord Mayor of Sydney.
“This is an extremely difficult time for me. The Roosters got the better of our Warriors but we will be back next year. In the immediate future the Australians have to contend with the Kiwis tomorrow night at Wellington’s Cake Tin – not bets,” Mr Banks said.
