Auck. green light for regional rail subsidiary

MEDIA RELEASE

19 September 2002

Auckland City green light for regional rail subsidiary

Auckland City looks set to approve the establishment of a wholly owned subsidiary company called ARTNL Metro by the Auckland Regional Transport Network Limited (ARTNL).

Once approved by the shareholding councils and established, ARTNL Metro would be responsible for developing and maintaining rail infrastructure in the Auckland region.

The council’s Finance and Corporate Business Committee today recommended the council approve the establishment of ARTNL Metro at its next meeting.

Committee chairperson, Councillor Douglas Armstrong, says today’s decision is to “ensure ARTNL is ready to take on its rail responsibilities. It is also further evidence of the Auckland City’s commitment to ARTNL and improving the region’s transport infrastructure.”

The rail subsidiary is proposed to have the same directors as those on the board of ARTNL and will be chaired by Mr Ross Keenan.
