Uniform response to life saving support
North Shore City's support for volunteer lifeguard services was recognised at the latest meeting of the council's community services and parks committee with the presentation of a framed lifeguard uniform by Surf Life Saving Northern Region.
Chief executive officer, Robert Barnes said the organisation was extremely grateful for the continued support given to the service, which had been running since 1973.
"It's a constant challenge to maintain an effective regional lifeguard service, competing as we do every year for critical funding."
Committee chairperson Margaret Miles confirmed the service has received $85,000 from the North Shore City Council in the past five years. "We're pleased to support this organisation which plays such an important role in our community," she says.
"We hope our uniform takes pride of place in your council offices, where visitors and staff will see it and be proud of your contribution to the safety of their friends and families," Mr Barnes told councillors.
