Chch City Council votes to stay with current system for 2004 election

Christchurch City Council this evening voted to retain the First Past the Post (FPP) system for the 2004 local body elections.

At a special meeting to debate the merits of changing to a Single Transferable Voting (STV) system, the City Council voted 13-12 for no change.


The meeting also decided that, at the 2004 local body elections, Christchurch voters will be asked to indicate which voting system they would prefer in future elections.
