This weekend the country comes to the city for Auckland Regional Council’s annual Ambury Farm Day on Sunday 23 September.

The event is a favourite for Aucklanders, regularly attracting crowds of 15,000 plus from all over the region to Ambury Regional Park in Mangere Bridge for a raft of free activities and a day of farm-related fun for all the family.

ARC Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman Bill Burrill says this year’s event will have something for everyone.

“All the old favourites like gumboot throwing, butter making, felt making, cow lotto, sheep mustering will be there and of course being Spring there will be no shortage of baby animals which are always popular,” he says.

“There is also a focus on sustainability this year with displays and activities for people to learn more about composting, recycling, worm farms, organics and pest control.”

Cr Burrill says some events which were hugely popular when they debuted at the Farm Day last year have also been brought back including the wood chopping competition and chainsaw carving show.

“I’m particularly looking forward to the “Back to Back Challenge” where a team will start with the wool on a sheep’s back, shear it, spin it and knit it into a jersey for a child’s back in the space of the day.”
