In the last 3 weeks more than 6,500 Porirua and Kapiti people have signed the petition to support Kenepuru Hospital.

Regional councillor Robert Shaw said this level of support showed the public had a clear vision and wanted to see action.

"It is great to have Porirua and Kapiti working together on the same project and strengthens our appeal to the Minister of Health. "

The petition asks the Minister of Health to develop Kenepuru Hospital and improve the accident and emergency facilities at Paraparaumu.

"Councillor Turver and I would like to thank the collectors and shop owners who are working hard to make the petition a success. We wish to acknowledge particularly the work of elderly people."

"We have set a target of 15,000 and hope that it can be achieved by the end of September close date."
