“Official Arbor Day planting at Ambury Regional Park”

Waterlea Primary School, Watercare Services and members of the local community will join the Auckland Regional Council
for its official Arbor Day planting at Ambury Regional Park.
The tree planting, in the park camping ground, commences at 1pm on June 5 which is also World Environment Day.
ARC Parks and Recreation committee Chairperson Bill Burrill says the Arbor Day event gives schoolchildren the chance to
make a practical contribution to the future of Auckland’s biodiversity and serves as a reminder to the wider community
that they can do likewise.
“In the future the children who plant these trees will be able to come back to Ambury Regional Park with their children
and grandchildren and see the difference they have made.”
Cr Burrill says Watercare Services are also making an extremely significant contribution to the future of the Ambury
Regional Park area.
“As part of Project Manukau, Watercare will be carrying out a major Coastal and Foreshore Restoration Project,” he says.
“It features a coastal walkway, with special provision for bird roosts, which will link the historic Otuataua
Stonefields with Ambury Regional Park and give the public renewed access to the coastline in between.”
Cr Burrill says the ARC looks forward to a continuing its close working relationship with Watercare Services and the
local community on the enhancement of the Mangere coastline.
“Arbor Day is about commemorating the past and looking to the future and this piece of coastline has an exciting
future,” he says.
