GREEN BINS ON THEIR WAY
Delivery of green recycling bins to all 85,000 Manukau households will get underway this weekend (March 15-16).
The massive delivery exercise is expected to take approximately two weeks. It will be completed in time for the start of
household recycling in Manukau, in the first week of April.
Chairman of the Council's Environmental Management Committee, Councillor Noel Burnside, says residents should watch out
for their bins and take them indoors when they arrive. Inside will be information about how and what to recycle. Each
household’s street number will be painted on the bin.
“Don’t be concerned if your bin doesn’t arrive in the next week. It is going to take two full weeks to cover the entire
city, including rural areas like Clevedon and Whitford.
“The time to phone the Council is after March 27th, if the bin still has not arrived – or if you see that all your
neighbours have their bins, but your’s hasn’t arrived.”
While residents can start filling the bins right away, they should not put them out for emptying until their usual
rubbish day in the first week of April – and then every rubbish day after.
If people have too much for one bin, or their bin has not arrived, they will be able to put their recyclables out for
collection in a cardboard box.
