ARC’s Cr. Smith Resigns In Bid For Rodney Mayor
February 15, 2001
Cr. Brian Smith, Rodney representative of the Auckland Regional Council, today (Thursday) tendered his resignation of the ARC effective immediately.
Philip Warren, Chairman of the ARC, explains that Cr Smith resigned as Rodney District representative today so as to be nominated for the Rodney District Council mayoral election on 31 March 2001.
He says that except when the triennial elections are held, candidates for one council may not be representatives on another council or community board.
“Brian Smith has been a valuable member of this Council and is very committed to the Rodney District.
“While I am saddened that the Auckland Regional Council will not have him as our Rodney member, this Council wishes him every success in the Mayoral race.”
The ARC will shortly be considering all options on how to fill the extraordinary vacancy. Until that time, Cr Warren, who has been a Rodney ratepayer for 38 years with a residence in Vipond Road, Whangaparaoa, will handle Rodney constituency matters on behalf of the ARC. People of the Rodney District can contact him through the ARC’s toll-free number of 0800 80 60 40.
