BILL CHRISTIAN APPOINTED AS PARKS AND RECREATION CHAIR

Penrose ward councillor Bill Christian has been appointed chairman of Auckland City’s Parks and Recreation Committee.

Cr Christian, currently in his twelfth year as a councillor, has a long involvement with parks and recreation issues, having served on the former recreation and community services committee and more recently the parks and recreation committee.

He has a personal interest in recreation and a long involvement with his community, holding office for organisations including Otahuhu United Soccer Club; Otahuhu, Tamaki, College Rifles and Onehunga Te Papa Rugby Clubs, St George Rowing Club, Panmure Basin Sailing Club and Otahuhu District Highland Pipe Band.

Cr Christian is also serving his second term as a member of the Mt Wellington Licensing Trust.

He ranks achieving a final settlement of Hillsborough Premier Park, a replacement tree or trees for One Tree Hill, completion of the council’s swimming pool strategy and a gym at Tamaki College as important parks and recreation issues facing the committee.

“I am anxious that large facilities are placed throughout the city where the need is greatest and will be working to make sure this happens,” he said.
