Entries for the Central City Fresh Perspectives Photography Competition will close on Friday 24 November.

Photographs of Christchurch's central city are the subjects for the new competition that has sections for professionals and amateurs.

The competition is part of the Mayoral Forum's campaign to revitalise the central city and is in association with Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing and the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography.

The winning professional will win $2000 and the title of Christchurch Photographer of the Year. The amateur section will have two prizes, each of $200 cash and $300 vouchers.

The winning professional entries, along with about 30 finalists from the amateur section, will be exhibited in the old Chief Post Office in Cathedral Square from 2-17 December. The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographys' Touring Print Exhibition.

This will comprise top prints from the institute's annual print competition. Professional photographers will submit a portfolio of four to six images that capture "the unique nature or points of difference of the Central City" with emphasis on its diversity and the inclusion of people.

Amateurs are to "capture the character of the Central City" with no restrictions on the number of prints submitted. Entry forms can be obtained from the City Council, Tuam Street, Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing, Cathedral Square, Ken's Camera Shop, Armagh Street, Scorpio Books, Hereford Street, or at 371 1999 or email: central.city@ccc.govt.nz. Entries will close at 4pm on 24 November.
