Smelly Spills On City Roads

Two incidents involving the spilling of well-composted wool scouring effluent did not involve the Christchurch City Council.

The smelly effluent was dumped at the Bexley-Pages roads intersection one night and in Dyers Road the following night this week. The effluent was being transported by a private company to Johns Road for spreading on paddocks but was carried by inadequate transport. Cars affected by the effluent had to be steam-cleaned to get rid of the smell. It was incorrectly stated that the effluent was being moved from the City Council's sewage treatment plant. This is incorrect.
