This year’s Anchor Ambury Farm Day will give some 15,000 Auckland city slickers a taste of country life and provide a greater variety of entertainment than ever.

“This year’s farm day will be a day of firsts for the event,” chairman of the Auckland Regional Council Parks and Recreation committee Bill Burrill says.

“Many of the attractions, such as an inaugural wood-chopping competition, the WestpacTrust rescue helicopter, and many of the live entertainment acts have not been seen at the farm day before.

“When you put those together with the regular farm day favourites like cow lotto, sheep shearing, gumboot throwing, pony rides, spring lamb and calf feeding demonstrations and more kids activities than ever, it all adds up to a great day out for the whole family.”

Among the live entertainment hosted by Classic Hits 97FM are two local cultural groups from Mangere East School and Sir Douglas Bader Intermediate School as well as the Capawera martial arts group from Brazil.

The farm day takes place from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, September 24, 2000 at Ambury Regional Park, a working farm park situated below Mangere Mountain at 43 Ambury Rd, just 15kms from downtown Auckland. Entry and parking is free.

To get there from the north or west take the airport motorway, the Mangere Bridge off ramp and simply follow the signs from the township, or from the east and south take the motorway, use the Coronation Rd off-ramp and follow the signs from Miller Rd.

“With more than 14,000 people at last year’s event, it’s clear Aucklanders enjoy the hands on farm experience the day provides,” Cr Burrill says. “This years farm day will provide that and much more.”
