Dear Christine Fletcher, WORLD WATER DAY CELEBRATIONS
As you are no doubt aware, 22 March is UN World Water Day and the occasion is being marked by a pro global-privatisation World Water Forum at the Hague, hosted by the UN / World Bank, from today until 22 March.
The Water Pressure Group is celebrating the day on the nearest Saturday that includes the forum, i.e. 18 March, by holding a WORLD WATER CELEBRATION DAY in Western Park, Ponsonby Rd. Thank you for granting a permit for a permit for our event.
As part of our activities we are going to officially open the METRO LONGDROP. This a classic style dunny which symbolises one effect that commercialised water services in Auckland City is having on the citizenry. People are being forced into installing tanks to try and economise on water that is no longer affordable. Indeed, as the High Court ruled in December 1999 - water services are now by law a "commercial activity" and "a commodity". So much for the most vital public service.
Since you are determined to retain Metrowater Ltd - against the wishes of the people - and you do have lots of standing in the community - we feel that you are the right person to officially open the METRO LONGDROP. You are therefore invited to attend at 11.15am to Western Park.
There has been considerable media interest shown in this event, and there will be cameras present, so it should afford another photo-opportunity for you.
As well, we wish to invite Metrowater Ltd to bring their inflatable tap so that the kids can have fun. Is there any hireage or babysitting fees for this? Could you please pass on this invitation to your water company?
