All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A ridge of high pressure should drift off the North
Island during the day as a low from the Tasman Sea approaches the
lower South Island. An associated front is expected to move
northeastwards over the South Island as a result.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUPO, TAUMARANUI, TAIHAPE, TARANAKI, WANGANUI
and MANAWATU: Cloud periods with showers affecting most places
during the day. Northwest winds becoming breezy.
WELLINGTON: Cloudy skies with a few showers but fine spells also.
Showers may become more widespread after dark. Gusty northerlies
easing tonight.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY, WAIRARAPA: A mainly fine day ahead with only
scattered cloud but parts of Wairarapa may see a few showers late
tonight. Northwest winds becoming gusty this morning south of Napier
then easing after dark.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Patchy rain about the western ranges
spreading further east later today but over much of Marlborough
remaining dry with long fine periods. Northwest winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Persistent rain south of the
glaciers working north during the day then easing to showers
about Fiordland from evening. Northerlies in most places but
winds turning southwest in the south later.
CANTERBURY: Cloudy skies. Rain developing in the Alps this
morning then a few falls further east. After dark showers
may become more widespread, especially in coastal areas. North
to northwest winds for much of the day in most places, a
southwest change later working slowly north.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain spreading east from the western ranges
then easing to showers this afternoon. From evening showers
retreating to the coast and skies clearing inland.
Northwesterlies turning to colder southwesterlies.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy with southwesterlies and showers at first
then winds turning northwest with showers becoming few and far
between.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: A front should move off the North Island
with showers clearing. A ridge of high pressure moves onto the
South Island with mainly fine conditions, remaining showers
clearing north of Banks Peninsula. Some cloud persisting about
Fiordland and along the south coast. At the Chatham's rain easing
to showers with an early southwest change.
