All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A front lies northeast north of the North Island
this morning as a ridge of high pressure spreads over much of the
country. Northwesterlies are expected to freshen in the far south
during the day ahead of a trough over the south Tasman Sea.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUPO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, WANGANUI and MANAWATU:
A mostly fine day with only a few scraps of cloud. The odd shower
north of Auckland clearing this morning. Light winds.
TAIHAPE, GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY, WAIRARAPA and WELLINGTON: Cloud and
remaining light showers clearing during the morning then fine
weather. North or northwest winds developing about Wellington and
Wairarapa, winds mostly light elsewhere.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Cloud clearing from the Kaikoura coast this
morning, the weather otherwise fine and frosty. Not much wind.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloud increasing
and rain expected south of the glaciers from afternoon.
Light winds over Buller and Westland for much of the day,
northwesterlies further south.
CANTERBURY: A fine day ahead, remaining cloud about and north of
Banks Peninsula soon clearing. Expect coastal northeasterlies and
inland winds mainly light.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Fine at first. High cloud increasing but
remaining dry in most areas. Patchy rain likely in western
Southland tonight. North to northwest winds freshening this morning.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showers and southwesterlies both easing during
the day with fine periods increasing.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Rain spreading to the west and southwest
of the North Island later in the day. Elsewhere a mix of cloudy
and fine weather. The South Island sees rain clearing from most
places but showers persisting in Buller and areas north of Banks
Peninsula. Also showers continuing about the south coast. At the
Chatham's rain developing with northwesterlies to blow.
