The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Friday:
Situation: A high just west of the country weakens today and allows a front and southwest change to spread up the South
Island overnight and over the North Island tomorrow. The high pushes a ridge back onto the country briefly on Wednesday
before weakening again and allowing another trough from the Tasman Sea to cross the country on Thursday. On Friday the
high dominates but a strong northwest flow extending from Australia should move onto the lower South Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloud and fine breaks
today. Showers and Southwesterlies developing tomorrow then becoming fine on Wednesday. Cloudy with a few showers and
northwesterlies on Thursday then southwesterlies developing after dark. Becoming fine on Friday.
COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Mostly fine today and at first tomorrow with light winds. Showers
and southwesterlies developing later on Tuesday. Mainly fine on Wednesday then showers developing on Thursday afternoon
or evening. Mostly fine on Friday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Mostly fine today apart from a few cloudy periods south of Napier. Showers to most
places tomorrow then becoming fine on Wednesday. On Thursday showers and cold southerlies spread north reaching Gisborne
by evening. Remaining showers clearing Friday and becoming fine.
WELLINGTON: Mostly cloudy today. Showers and southerlies developing overnight. Showers at first tomorrow then clearing.
A mix of cloud and fine breaks on Wednesday. Showery on Thursday with cold southerlies developing. Becoming fine on
NELSON: Mostly fine today but showers and southwesterlies developing late tonight. Becoming fine tomorrow and remaining
fine on Wednesday. Showers and southwesterlies on Thursday then fine again on Friday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Fine at first today. Brief coastal showers and a southwest change spread north tonight.
Showers become confined to the Kaikoura Coast tomorrow with long fine breaks inland. Mainly fine on Wednesday. Showers
and southwesterlies spread north again on Thursday. Becoming fine on Friday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A few showers about Fiordland today Spreading further north tonight. Becoming fine
tomorrow. On Wednesday, rain developing about Fiordland with cloud increasing elsewhere. Showers at first on Thursday
then clearing. Cloudy about the Fiords on Friday, mainly fine elsewhere.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Showers and southwesterlies developing today. Showers about the coast tomorrow but becoming fine
inland. Cloudy at times with northwesterlies on Wednesday. Showers and southwesterlies on Thursday. Further cloudy
periods on Friday with northwest winds.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Today, a mix of cloud and fine breaks. Showers and southwesterlies redevelop tomorrow with further
showers on Tuesday. Showers easing on Wednesday. Cloudy on Thursday with gusty northwesterlies. Showers and
southwesterlies again on Friday.
