The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Thursday:
Situation: A disturbed southwest flow covers the country for most of the period with fronts embedded in the flow
crossing the country from time to time. On Thursday a northwesterly airstream develops over the South Island and a high
pushes a ridge onto the North Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TARANAKI: Cloud and fine breaks with a few
showers and southwest winds from today through until Wednesday. On Thursday, mostly fine with light frosts in sheltered
places.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Mainly fine today through until Tuesday. A few showers possible on Wednesday then fine
again Thursday.
TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: A few showers developing later today. Showers clearing tomorrow then mainly fine on
Tuesday. Further showers on Wednesday. Cloud and fine breaks on Thursday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Fine at first. Showers and southerlies spread north this evening. Coastal showers
tomorrow but becoming fine inland. Mainly fine Tuesday. Showers again on Wednesday. Cloud and fine breaks on Thursday
with a few light showers about Gisborne clearing later.
WELLINGTON: A few showers developing later today. Cloud and fine breaks tomorrow then showers and cold southerlies
returning late Tuesday. Slowly becoming fine on Wednesday and mainly fine on Thursday.
NELSON: A few showers this evening then mainly fine until Thursday apart from a few showers on Tuesday night.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Showers and cold southerlies spread north today reaching Marlborough this evening. Some snow
to 400 metres in Canterbury. Coastal showers tomorrow north of Banks Peninsula but becoming mainly fine elsewhere.
Showers and southerlies sweep north again Tuesday. A few coastal showers clearing on Wednesday, elsewhere fine. Mainly
fine on Thursday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Showery today and tomorrow. Rain spreads north on Tuesday then clearing later. Showers
clearing on Wednesday. Cloud increasing Thursday with late rain to Fiordland.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Showery and cold today with snow to 200 metres in Southland and 300 metres in Otago. Becoming fine
inland tomorrow but showers remain about the coast. Showers become widespread again early Tuesday with more snow to the
ranges. Becoming fine on Wednesday. High cloud increasing on Thursday with late rain spreading from the west into
Southland.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain easing to showers today. Remaining showery through until Thursday with southwest winds.
