tonight:
From Northland and Wellington: also for the central Plateau: Cloud increasing. Drizzle from Taranaki south this morning turning to widespread rain there later and patchy falls further north. Northwesterlies rising to gale about Wellington.
Bay of Plenty and from Gisborne to Wairarapa: Fine at first. Cloudy periods developing then rain about the ranges south of the Manawatu Gorge and northwest gales over much of Wairarapa.
Nelson and Marlborough: Cloud increasing. Rain spreading to most places. Heavy falls in the northwest ranges.
South Island west coast: Rain with heavy falls. Late afternoon, rain easing to showers in Fiordland.
In the east from Canterbury to Southland: Cloudy with rain about the western ranges and northwest gales this morning from inland Canterbury to Southland. Rain spreading to most places briefly then a southwest change working as far north as south Canterbury tonight.
Chatham Islands: The odd shower with cloudy skies.
