Now the All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:

The Situation: A strong northwest flow covers the country. A southwest change should spread up the South Island later.

And now the forecast to midnight tonight:

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TAUPO: A mix of cloud and fine breaks with a few drizzle patches developing about the west coast towards evening. Northwest winds strengthening and becoming gusty about Auckland.

TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloud increasing with a few drizzle patches turning to rain later. Northwest winds rising to gale force in exposed places.

WELLINGTON: Cloud increasing with drizzle developing about the northern suburbs then turning to rain towards evening. Northerly winds rising to severe gale this afternoon with gusts to 120km/h.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: High cloud increasing with northwest winds becoming gusty and rising to gale force south of Napier. Severe gales are likely in Wairarapa this afternoon with gusts to 120 km/h.

NELSON: Mostly cloudy with rain developing and heavy falls likely in the western ranges. Northwest winds becoming gusty.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: High cloud thickening with heavy rain developing about the alps and falls spreading further east at times. Northwest winds rising to gale force in exposed places.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Periods of rain with heavy falls and gusty northwest winds. Rain easing to showers in Fiordland this evening along with a southwest change.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain about the western ranges this morning with a few heavy falls likely. Rain spreading to most places during the day with northwest winds reaching gale force. Late afternoon, rain and winds should ease as a southwest change works northward.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy with a few showers and strong northwesterlies.

THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Rain areas becoming confined to the upper North Island with just a few showers over the remainder of the country. At the Chatham Islands, a period of rain with northwesterlies turning southwest.
