The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Thursday:
Situation: An active frontal system should cross the country today. Tomorrow a west to southwest flow covers the country
and a cool southerly change spreads up the South Island. On Tuesday a high in the Tasman Sea starts to push a ridge onto
the South Island. On Wednesday and Thursday the ridge covers much of the country with a weakening southeast flow over
the North Island and westerlies to
the lower South Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI: Rain becoming widespread today then easing to
showers early tomorrow. A mix of cloud and fine breaks on Tuesday with a few light showers about Northland and Auckland.
Mostly fine on Wednesday and remaining fine on Thursday with southeast breezes.
TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Showers turning to rain this afternoon with northwesterlies. Rain easing to
showers Monday, winds turning southwest. Mostly cloud on Tuesday with a few showers then clearing and becoming mainly
fine on Wednesday. Fine and frosty on Thursday with light winds.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Cloud increasing today with rain spreading from the west later today. Further rain
tomorrow easing to showers from afternoon. Becoming fine on Tuesday and remaining fine through until Thursday with
southeast breezes.
WELLINGTON: Cloudy today with rain developing later. Further rain tomorrow with a cold southerly change after dark. A
few showers clearing on Tuesday with southerly winds. Mainly fine on Wednesday and fine on Thursday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: High cloud thickening today with late rain spreading from the ranges. Rain clearing
early tomorrow then after dark showers and southerlies spread north. Further showers on Tuesday then slowly clearing on
Wednesday. Mainly fine on Thursday but cloud and the odd light shower remain
about Gisborne
NELSON: Outbreaks of rain today. Rain easing to showers tomorrow then clearing. Mostly fine from Tuesday through until
Thursday with southerly breezes dying out.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain today with heavy falls about Buller. Tomorrow, rain easing to just a few showers
with long fine breaks also. Mostly fine on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cloud increasing south of the glaciers on Thursday but
remaining dry.
MARLBOROUGH, CANTERBURY and OTAGO: A period of rain today. Tomorrow showers and southerlies spread north reaching
Marlborough by evening. Showers become confined to the coast on Tuesday then mostly fine Wednesday and Thursday.
SOUTHLAND: Rain at times today. Showers and southerlies developing tomorrow. Showers about the coast on Tuesday but
becoming fine inland. Fine inland Wednesday and Thursday but cloudy at times about the coast.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers today. Rain and strong northwesterlies tomorrow then easing to showers and cold
southwesterlies on Tuesday. Further showers on Wednesday and Thursday with southwesterlies easing.
