Now the All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A front should cross the North island this morning and is followed by a westerly airstream. A low lies over the upper South Island and pulls a southeast flow onto the lower part of the Island.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAIHAPE, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Rain to most places this morning then easing to showers and fine breaks with northwest winds tending westerly.
TARANAKI, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Rain this morning easing to showers with northwest winds.
WELLINGTON: A period of rain easing to showers later this morning with gusty northerlies.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: High cloud thickening with rain developing about the main ranges and a few falls spreading further east later. Northwest winds tending westerly this afternoon.
NELSON: Rain about the western ranges with a few showers elsewhere. West to southwest winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain with heavy falls in Buller this morning. Rain easing to a few showers from the south later with southwest winds.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Rain about the alps spreading further east for a time this morning then clearing and becoming mainly fine Northwest winds developing then turning southerly late in the day.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Morning rain easing to a few coastal showers but remaining cloudy. Southeast winds developing.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A mix of cloud and fine breaks with northwest winds.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: A few showers to the west of both Islands but mainly fine elsewhere. At the Chatham Islands, rain and northerlies.
