The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Saturday.
Situation: An anticyclone now lies east of the country and should continue to move away. A weak frontal zone is expected
to move onto the southwest of the South Island tomorrow then very slowly works further north and east then weaken.
Thursday sees remnants of the front affecting western North Island areas as a narrow ridge spreads onto the South Island
from the west. During Friday the ridge moves further north as broad trough moves into the Tasman Sea. Saturday sees the
trough approaching New Zealand and is preceded by a strengthening northwest flow.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Fine in many places today but from Coromandel
Peninsula to eastern Northland a few showers at times. Tomorrow showers are likely to become more extensive but dry for
much of the time about Bay of Plenty. Drizzly rain spreading to most areas Thursday. On Friday becoming mainly fine.
Saturday sees a mix of fine and cloudy weather.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, TAUPO, WANGANUI, MANAWATU and WELLINGTON: Fine today. Cloudy periods
tomorrow with drizzle patches developing later. More extensive drizzly rain on Thursday. A few showers clearing Thursday
then cloudy periods Saturday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Showers clearing from northern Gisborne today, elsewhere a mix of fine and cloudy
periods. Tomorrow mainly fine. Dry with high cloud Thursday then brief rain spreading from the west early Friday. Fine
NELSON: Cloud increasing later today then drizzle areas in most places tomorrow. During Thursday drizzly rain slowly
clearing then mostly fine Friday. Cloud increasing Saturday but remaining dry.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloud thickening with drizzle developing. Tomorrow rain in most places then a clearance
south of the glaciers. Remaining rain clearing from northern Westland and Buller Thursday with mainly fine conditions
elsewhere. Cloud thickening early Friday with rain becoming widespread. Further rain Saturday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow but dry. Brief rain possible Thursday then clearing. Dry
with increasing high cloud Friday. During Saturday rain about the main divide spreading elsewhere later in strong
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Fine today. Cloud increasing early tomorrow with brief rain spreading from the west. Becoming fine
Thursday in most places but a few showers may persist about the south coast and Stewart Island. Rain working into the
western ranges Friday, further east cloudy and dry. Widespread rain Saturday.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A mix of cloudy and fine periods today and tomorrow then brief rain Thursday. On Friday rain easing to
showers. Further showers Saturday.
