Short Forecast valid to midnight tomorrow:
For the north and west of the North Island from Northland to Taranaki, also for the central plateau and Bay of Plenty: High cloud thickening, patchy rain spreading south today. Rain not reaching Bay of Plenty and Taupo until evening. Tomorrow, rain easing to showers from the west.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Dry with increasing high cloud today. Outbreaks of rain tomorrow.
Nelson: Cloudy. Rain becoming widespread today. Tomorrow, rain easing to showers from early morning.
The South Island west coast: Periods of rain.
Wanganui to Wellington: High cloud thickening today with scattered rain developing later. Tomorrow, morning rain easing to showers.
For Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland: Dry in most places today and milder with high cloud. Patchy rain developing about the alps. Tomorrow, Rain about the alps with falls spreading further east at times. Drizzle as well about the Otago and Southland coasts.
Chatham Islands: A mix of cloudy and fine periods.
