All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A ridge of high pressure lies just east of New
Zealand. A deepening depression centred west of the South Island
is slow moving. Its associated frontal cloud is expected to
spread onto much of the country today.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI and TAIHAPE, Cloud
increasing. Patchy light rain developing about Northland this
morning then spreading slowly south to most other places this
afternoon and evening. North to northeast breezes.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: An increase in high cloud
during the day but staying dry until evening. Northerly breezes.
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Fine and frosty at first. High cloud
increasing with scattered rain from late afternoon. Not much wind.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: A fine frosty start with light
breezes. High cloud spreading from the west this afternoon.
WELLINGTON: Fine and frosty at first. High cloud increasing.
Patchy rain possible from late afternoon. Northerly winds
becoming breezy this afternoon.
NELSON: Rain becoming widespread this morning. North to
northeast winds.
MARLBOROUGH: Fine apart from high cloud for much of the time.
Patchy light rain possible in the west after dark. Not much
in the way of wind.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloudy skies. Rain developing about
Buller this morning then spreading south reaching Fiordland this
afternoon. Northeast winds freshening.
CANTERBURY, OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: A dry milder day than of late in
most places. Scattered rain is likely after dark about the main
divide and far western ranges. Light breezes in many inland places, northeasterlies developing about the coast and about
Southland.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A mix of cloudy and fine periods this morning.
This afternoon becoming fine with southerly winds dying out.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Outbreaks of rain over much of the North
Island then easing to showers in the north and west. Rain or showers
about the South Island west coast. Elsewhere brief rain slowly
clearing. Cloud increasing at the Chatham's.
