The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Wednesday.
Situation: A ridge of high pressure covers much of the South Island today as a south to southeast flow weakens over
North Island areas. Tomorrow a trough moves onto the lower South Island from the west as the ridge weakens and moves
further north. During Monday a depression is expected to deepen west of central New Zealand and should extend a broad
frontal cloud sheet over many areas. The low drifts onto the country on Tuesday and lies over the Chatham Islands on
Wednesday.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE,
TAUPO: Fine in most places today and tomorrow. Cloud and light showers gradually clearing later today from Northland and
places close to the main eastern ranges. Cloud increases on Monday with late rain to western areas from Northland to
Taranaki. Rain to all areas Tuesday then easing to showers from the west. Further showers in the west on
Wednesday but becoming fine in Bay of Plenty.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Cold with cloud and showers continuing today. Tomorrow skies clearing from the
south. Dry at first Monday with high cloud increasing towards evening. Rain on Tuesday then clearing late in the day.
Mainly fine on Wednesday with gusty westerlies.
WELLINGTON: Showers retreating to the eastern ranges today. A mix of cloud and fine breaks tomorrow. Cloud increasing
late on Monday with rain on Tuesday then easing to showers later. Showery on Wednesday.
NELSON: Mostly fine frosty weather today and tomorrow. Cloud increasing Monday with late rain to the Tasman Mountains.
Rain on Tuesday easing to showers later. A mix of cloud and fine breaks on Wednesday with a few showers to western
areas.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mostly fine frosty conditions today but cloud increasing south of the glaciers later.
Tomorrow, Rain in Fiordland with cloudy skies elsewhere. Patchy rain to most places on Monday then becoming widespread
after dark. Rain easing to showers on Tuesday. A few showers about Buller on Wednesday otherwise mainly fine.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Mostly fine inland today but about the coast cloudy with drizzly showers persisting. Mainly
fine tomorrow.Cloud increasing Monday but remaining dry. Periods of rain on Tuesday with further falls on Wednesday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Fine and frosty today but cloudy at times about the coast. High cloud increasing tomorrow with
patchy rain spreading from the west later. Mainly fine on Monday. Cloudy Tuesday with rain about coast and falls
spreading inland at times. Further rain about the coast on Wednesday but mainly dry inland.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showery conditions continuing util late in the weekend with southeasterlies dying out by then. Cloudy
and dry Monday with light winds. Rain developing later Tuesday with freshening northeasterlies. Rain easing to showers
late Wednesday with the winds tending westerly.
