The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Monday.
Situation: A depression northeast of the Chatham Islands should continue to move slowly away and weaken tomorrow as a ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South Island. The ridge should drift further north Saturday as a trough approaches southwestern New Zealand late in the day. The trough is likely to affect much of the South Island during Sunday then spread to North Island areas on Monday.

On Sunday cloud increasing. Monday sees rain spreading into western areas but from Bay of Plenty to Taupo remaining dry.
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: The odd light shower at first then fine periods increasing. Mostly fine tomorrow and Saturday. Cloudy on Sunday, rain developing Monday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Light showers about Wairarapa spreading elsewhere from later today and persisting in most coastal places tomorrow. Inland skies breaking. Gradually clearing from the south on Saturday with showers becoming confined to coastal areas north of Mahia. Mainly fine Sunday then dry with high cloud Monday.
WELLINGTON: Fine breaks increasing today with remaining light showers becoming confined to the eastern hills overnight. Tomorrow any lingering light showers clearing with mostly fine conditions expected. Fine Saturday. Cloudy periods Sunday then rain developing Monday.
NELSON: Mostly fine frosty weather thru to Sunday then an increase in cloud. Rain likely Monday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mostly fine frosty conditions today and tomorrow but some cloud at times. Cloud increasing Saturday with patchy rain developing south of the glaciers. During Sunday scattered falls spreading further north. Widespread rain expected Monday then a late clearance to Fiordland.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Mostly fine inland today and tomorrow but about the coast cloud and drizzly showers persisting. Saturday should be fine and frosty everywhere. Cloudy periods Sunday but dry. Monday sees areas of patchy rain or drizzle.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mainly fine and frosty today and tomorrow then cloud increasing Saturday. Patchy rain possible about western Southland at night. Light falls of rain spreading further east on Sunday but eastern Otago should remain dry. On Monday cloudy skies with coastal drizzle areas.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain today and much of tomorrow then during Saturday easing to light showers. Further light showers Sunday and Monday. Southeasterlies dying away easterly in the weekend.
